Independent Living Skills
Developing Confidence, Self-Reliance and Participation
Independent living is about more than physical access. It also involves having the skills, confidence, support, and opportunities needed to participate meaningfully in everyday life.
The IEO Independent Living Centre provides Independent Living Skills Development as part of its community-based support for persons with disabilities.
Building Self-Reliance
IEO’s independent living skills activities are designed to promote:
- Self-reliance
- Confidence
- Daily living skills
- Community participation
- Greater independence
Independent Living Skills Development is also one of the core services identified for the IEO Independent Living Centre.
Activities of Daily Living
The centre includes an Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Section, supporting practical skill development as part of the Independent Living Centre’s rehabilitation and empowerment environment.
A Connected Support System
Independent living skills are supported alongside other IEO services, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, education support, IT classes, counselling, assistive devices, and transportation support.
This integrated approach allows disability support to focus not only on rehabilitation, but also on participation, confidence, independence, and inclusion.
